Information on Rebanding Your Cell Phone

SouthernLINC Wireless will be switching frequencies starting January 2006 and continuing throughout 2007 and 2008. As a result, we are asking our subscribers to reband, or reprogram their phones. Without rebanding your phone you may have difficulty connecting to our network as the switching occurs. The change in frequencies is a good thing because it means you'll get better service when using your cell phone.

To learn more about how rebanding may affect you, take a look at the information below.

What Exactly is Rebanding?

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has ordered a reconfiguration of the 800 MHz band to solve public-safety interference. The plan is intended to minimize the potential for interference between commercial wireless and public safety communications systems that both currently operate on the 800 MHz band.

To comply with the FCC mandate SouthernLINC Wireless is moving to a different frequency position throughout the network.

How Does This Affect You?

To ensure there is no interruption in your SouthernLINC Wireless service during the Rebanding effort, you will need to do one of the following:

  • Have a sales representative or authorized dealer perform a software update on your existing phone. This update will provide your phone with a new list of frequencies allowing it to connect to the SouthernLINC Wireless network properly.
  • Upgrade to a newer model phone that already includes the new list of frequencies. Older phones may not be able to support the software update, so an upgrade may be required. You can find out if your phone is capable of supporting the update by contacting a sales representative today.

Should I Buy a New Phone or Get the Software Update?

To determine your specific next steps, find your phone model in the chart listed below, scan across and it will provide you with a recommendation based on your phone. Links have been provided to upgrade to a new cell phone or find out more information on the software update.
