When dialing 911, your SouthernLINC Wireless AGPS mobile phone may be a real lifesaver!

SouthernLINC Wireless customers should consider purchasing a phone with Assisted Global Positioning System (AGPS) capability. When dialing 911, an AGPS phone may automatically provide 911 operators with your number and approximate location – Wireless E911 Phase 2 service – making it easier and faster for emergency responders to find you. In an emergency this may be critical.

Where is Wireless E911 Phase I and Phase II Available?

The FCC is requiring wireless providers to become E911 compliant in two phases.

    Wireless E911 Phase I

Wireless E911 Phase I requires wireless carriers to provide emergency response agencies with the telephone number of a wireless 911 caller and the location of the tower site that received the call in order to help them dispatch assistance to the 911 caller.

    Wireless E911 Phase I

Wireless E911 Phase II requires wireless carriers to provide the telephone number and far more precise location information of the caller, within 410 feet or 135 yards in most cases. SouthernLINC Wireless customers must have an AGPS capable phone in order for the approximate location of the caller to be sent to the 911 operator.

The deployment of Wireless E911 Phase I and Phase II requires the development of new technologies and upgrades to local 911 Centers or Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs), as well as coordination among public safety agencies, wireless carriers, technology vendors, equipment manufacturers and local wireline carriers. Wireless E911 Phase II service is only available if the applicable 911 Center has upgraded its equipment.
