#811 — Call Before You Dig

As of April 2007, all SouthernLINC Wireless customers who need “Call Before You Dig” information may now simply dial 811 from their SouthernLINC Wireless handsets.

811 is a new, universal “Call Before You Dig” number mandated by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).  It provides a quick way to begin the process of getting underground utility lines marked.

If you’re planning even a slight addition to your backyard like planting a tree, or a bigger project – like adding a swimming pool – you need to ensure your project won’t interfere with underground utility lines.  By calling 811, you’ll get routed to the correct local contact right away, who can ensure the utility lines near your project get marked accordingly.

With the addition of 811, this means the previous “Call Before You Dig” line – #344 – will be disconnected as of April  as directed by the FCC.

More information can be found at www.call811.com.  SouthernLINC Wireless’s customer support (1-800-818-LINC) can also be of assistance.
